Yankees sign RHP Kaleb Ort, release LHP Miguel Sulbaran

The New York Yankees have signed RHP Kaleb Ort to a minor-league deal and released LHP Miguel Sulbaran, according to the latest batch of MiLB transactions reported by Baseball America’s Matt Eddy.

Ort, 25, was signed from Joliet of the independent Frontier League. The righty spent all of 2016 with Joliet, going 3-4 with a 6.05 ERA and one save in 20 games/12 starts, and he threw two innings of scoreless ball in his only outing for the Slammers this season.

Sulbaran, 23, was acquired from the Twins for Eduardo Nunez in April 2014, and went 4-5 with a 3.52 ERA in 22 games/20 starts that season for Class-A Advanced Tampa. The lefty was 3-5 with a 4.77 ERA in 14 starts with Double-A Trenton in 2015 and made one spot start (throwing five scoreless innings) with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre that year as well, but he has not pitched since mid-2015 due to injury.

In addition, just prior to the opening of the 2017 minor-league season, Sulbaran was suspended for 25 games without pay for a violation of the minor-league drug policy.
